Long Teng Cup 2011: Hong Kong vs PHL Azkals, 3-all
MANILA, PHILIPPINES– The Philippine football team Azkals officially started with its first international venture in the 2011 Long Teng Cup after their remarkable second-round stint in the 2014 FIFA world cup Asian qualifiers.The Pinoy booters kicked off their Long Teng Cup campaign today in Kaohsiung, Chinese-Taipei by finishing a draw against the defending champion Hong Kong, 3-all.
The Azkals made a great comeback from a 2-0 deficit in the first 20 minutes of the game against Hong Kong.
Chieffy Caligdong triumphantly hit two goals and the other goal came from Phil Younghusband.
In the 30th minute, Phil Younghusband hit a penalty kick, which marked the first goal for Philippine Azkals.
The national team hit another goal in the 44th minute, courtesy of the Ilonggo striker Chieffy Caligdong and tied the score at 2-2.
James Younghusband created a diagonal pass that gave way to the Ilonggo striker to hit a goal despite the tight defense of the defending champs.
In the 85th minute, Hong Kong hit a goal and converted another one that tied the game.
The Philippines was no longer able to make a lead after they lost two players. Caligdong was booked for dissent while Jason De Jong was ousted from the pitch for a Red Card. This likewise, prohibited De Jong from playing in the next game of Azkals against host country of Taiwan.
However, two players of Hong Kong were also issued with Red Card hence they only have ten players left in the pitch until the game ended.
Prior to this, the Azkals were surprised by the defending champs after Lee Wai Lim made an early goal in the 2nd minute. The other goal for Hong Kong came from Cheng Lai Hin.
The 2011 Long Teng Cup is an international football tournament held from September 30 to October 4, 2011. It features the same national football teams, which competed in the in 2010 launching.
This year’s Long Teng Cup tournament will feature four national teams with pre-tournament FIFA rankings including Hong Kong (155), Philippines (165), Chinese Taipei (172) and Macau (191).
Philippine Azkals will face the host team Chinese Taipei in their next leg scheduled on Sunday night, 7:30PM. The Pinoy booters will wrap up their stretch against team Macau on Tuesday afternoon, 4:30PM.
